  1. Mental health: Mental health has become an increasingly prevalent topic in pop culture in recent years. For example, in 2017, the popular Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” depicted the experiences of a high school student struggling with mental health issues, sparking a national conversation about the portrayal of mental health in popular media. Additionally, in 2019, singer-songwriter Billie Eilish released a song titled “Everything I Wanted,” which addressed her own struggles with mental health and suicide ideation. The song went on to become a hit and was widely praised for its honest portrayal of mental health issues.

  2. Cancer: Cancer has been a prevalent health condition in pop culture for many years. For example, the 1979 film “The China Syndrome” depicted the experiences of a television reporter investigating a nuclear power plant, which ultimately leads to a near-meltdown and radiation exposure. The film was released just weeks before the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Pennsylvania, which brought the issue of nuclear safety to the forefront of public consciousness. Additionally, in 2012, the popular book and film “The Fault in Our Stars” depicted the experiences of two teenagers with cancer who fall in love. The book and film were widely praised for their honest portrayal of the emotional and physical toll of cancer.

  3. Addiction: Addiction, particularly to opioids and other drugs, has become a major health crisis in many parts of the world. Pop culture has played a role in raising awareness of the issue. For example, in 2018, the film “Beautiful Boy” depicted the experiences of a father and son dealing with the son’s addiction to drugs. The film was based on a memoir by journalist David Sheff and his son Nic, and was widely praised for its honest portrayal of addiction and its impact on families. Additionally, in 2019, rapper Lil Nas X released a song titled “Old Town Road,” which addressed his own struggles with addiction and the impact it had on his life. The song went on to become a massive hit and was widely praised for its honest portrayal of addiction.
